Small lessons. A wider world. AWE’s environmental micro-learning library explains Air, Water and Earth in short, sourced lessons. Read without an account, explore the evidence and question the limits of a claim.

The air you can’t see. One hot day is not a climate trend. “50% less.” Less than what? A good idea travels. Context must travel too. AIR / AWE MICRO-LEARNING The air you can’t see. Clear skies. Complete picture? A photograph cannot tell you the concentration of fine particles in the air.
A name that describes a size. PM2.5 refers to fine particles generally 2.5 micrometres in diameter or smaller.
Read the measurement, not the view. Look for the pollutant, monitoring location and measurement period. A single reading is not a long-term trend.

EARTH / AWE MICRO-LEARNING One hot day is not a climate trend. Today’s weather. A longer story. Weather describes short-term atmospheric conditions at a particular place.
Zoom out in time. Climate describes patterns over longer periods, commonly 30 years or more.
Neither a cold day nor a hot day settles it. Understanding a changing climate requires records and patterns, not one memorable afternoon.

WATER / AWE MICRO-LEARNING “50% less.” Less than what? A big percentage needs a baseline. Imagine a fictional water-use claim: “50% less”. The comparison has not been explained yet.
100 → 50. Or 10 → 5. Both are 50% reductions. The absolute quantities differ. These are illustrative numbers, not company data.
Four questions change the story. Compared with what? Over which period? Using which units? Based on whose evidence?

EARTH / AWE MICRO-LEARNING A good idea travels. Context must travel too. It worked there. Would it work here? A solution story is a starting point for investigation, not a guarantee of the same result everywhere.
Look outside the headline. Ask about local conditions, cost, maintenance, institutions and who measured the outcome.
Copy the learning before the solution. An AWE editorial lens: understand why something worked before deciding whether it can transfer.

Test your understanding A cold week disproves global warming. Read the answer and explanation False. A short weather event cannot establish or disprove a long-term climate trend. Look at records over time.
